Lahti, the European Green Capital of 2021, created a mobile application to help people choose more climate-friendly transportation. The application engages citizens and encourages them to make a change in how they travel.
The main goal of the CitiCAP project is to decrease transport emissions by using a model for personal mobility carbon trading.
The app tracks the user’s travels, calculates the CO2 emissions generated, and uses the information to set a weekly goal for mobility emissions. Through different visualisations, users have real-time data of their carbon footprint. Those who successfully manage to reduce their transport emissions are rewarded with discounts for local products.
