The Sustainable Lifestyle Service helps people take climate action through everyday choices.
By specifying and calculating personal emissions, the service helps Finns to reach a more sustainable everyday life.
Most greenhouse gas emissions result from individual choices on consumption. The Finnish Innovation Fund Sitra and the Prime Minister’s Office created a Sustainable Lifestyle Service that helps Finns recognise where their personal emissions come from and how to reduce them.
The service begins by calculating people’s personal carbon footprints. After the emissions are known, people can choose their preferred emission-reducing actions from a list of smart choices. On average, people are ready to cut 30% from their carbon footprint during the first year of their plan. By creating individual plans for each user, the service reminds people that there is no one right way to live sustainably.
Through outlining different climate actions, the service also help people understand which climate actions are easy to do individually and which ones need support from all of society.
